BusyBus supports glamourous director Vera de Ruiter on her wildest mission yet; to conquer Kilimanjaro!

The final countdown is on until Vera de Ruiter undertakes her most ambitious challenge yet; to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro commencing on 11th January 2013. Vera, a Director of sightseeing tour and minibus private hire company BusyBus, will be attempting the challenge to raise money to support illness and accident amputees.

Towering at 5,895mts (19,341ft), Kilimanjaro, in Africa, is the highest free-standing mountain in the World and getting to the summit of this vast, snow-capped and dormant volcano will be no easy task. The expedition will take 8-days of hard-slog in tortuous conditions and inevitable altitude sickness, nausea, depression and exhaustion. Temperatures at the base are tropical at up to 35 degrees, dropping to as low as -25 degrees at the summit.

Vera has been in training for over a year and recently completed the UK National 3-Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scarfel Pike and Snowdon) in 23 hrs, 57 minutes (including transport between mountains provided by BusyBus).

Vera said: “It’s funny because since I joined BusyBus in a predominantly male-dominated industry (coach driving) I have found myself more and more determined to fight for my equalities, often pushing myself to my limits. Arguing with other coach drivers over why I am a better driver than they are is far more difficult than an afternoon stroll up Kilimanjaro! That said, the £5,000 sponsorship given by BusyBus is fantastic and has kept me focussed and motivated to succeed in this mission”

Vera will be passing the proceeds of her fund-raising to her chosen charity that provides limbs to illness and accident amputees. She commented “I want to bring attention to those with limb losses through illness or accident that are traumatic and distressing for them. Due to the high profile of the more well-known charities, these silent sufferers are all-too-often pushed to the bottom of the charity donation pecking-order and if I can help, I will”
