Lake District Uncut
Welcome to an area of inspiration, of stunning landscape, deep lakes and spectacular mountains. With unique charm and ancient legend that will burn into your memory forever. Welcome….to the Lakes!
This award-winning tour will explore the Lake District in an exciting, relaxed way giving you the chance to see and experience this amazing largest National Park in Britain (2,292 km² / 885 mls²). We’ll exploit the vehicle size by navigating some of the more unusual, smaller roads, taking in as much of those unique Lakeland views as possible in true BusyBus style!
After a 1,5 hour drive from Chester, with onboard entertainment of course, we enter the Southern part of the Lake District for our first stop: Bowness on Windermere. This town on the edge on Windermere is where you’ll board a the steamer ferry which will take you across Windermere, the longest lake at 10,5m long, to Ambleside. After all, you can’t visit the lake district without experiencing the lake itself.
Your bus will be waiting for you when you get off the boat in Ambleside from which it’s only a short transfer into town. Ambleside is a typical Lake District town and will be the place to enjoy a hearty lunch and get the souvernir shopping out of the way. Anything related to Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth and other famous ‘locals’ is stocked in the shops, waiting to be purchased by you.
Let’s hope lunch has had some time to settle when you get back on the bus as the afternoon will be spent on the winding and narrow hill roads of the Langdale Valley. You’ll get the chance to make your very own attempt to climb a mountain(well…a hill, but you’r welcome to stay on the flat too!!)
Enjoy a well-earned drink at the famous Dungeon Ghyll pub, hidden away deep in the Langdale Valley before we continue to Gingerbread heaven: Grasmere. This little town is also home to William Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage and his final resting place in the local churchyard.
During your adventurous day you’ll get plenty of chances to browse the shops as you stroll the unique streets of Ambleside and Grasmere, of course not forgetting to sample Sarah Nelsons Gingerbread (optional) or popping into the Beatrix Potter Museum (optional).
Perhaps you prefer to explore the works of William Wordsworth (1770>1850 & Poet Laureate 1843>1850) at his homes Rydal Mount & Dove Cottage (optional) with the magnificent Coffin Trail walk (1-hr) joining them together.
This tour is feature-rich and very popular with limited seating to only 16 passengers so please book early to avoid disappointment. Guaranteed satisfaction with laughter and fun on the way!
