The Wales Wanders tour is the ideal choice for those not wishing, or having the time, to experience the North Wales Adventure full day tour above.

Covering a smaller distance you'll still cross the border and experience Wales with your driver & tour escort giving you all the facts, mysteries and legends on-route.

This tour has been carefully routed and planned to give plenty of time off the vehicle with as much or little exploring as you wish. We'll visit spectacular scenery, ancient monuments and one of the greatest Welsh pastimes of all - a wonderful traditional pub for lunch!

Bus tours commence at 10:30am every Sunday (other days subject to a minimum of 8 passengers) from the Chester Visitor Centre on Vicars Lane. Further collection points from convenient locations, including Tourist Offices, Hotels, Caravan Parks, etc. can be arranged. You will, of course, be dropped off at the same point at 3:30pm after your wonderful day!

After a short, narrated, drive through Chester, with areas of interest pointed out (like the City Walls, The Rows, The Eastgate Clock, The Amphitheatre and the infamous Horse Racing Course) we will commence our journey to North Wales.

To start with you get a unique chance to experience the Pontcysyllte Canal Aqueduct, built by Sir Thomas Telford in 1795 and still taking canal barges across the valley high above the ground. Walk across to be collected on the other side, or simply admire from the side if height is not your thing.

With everybody back on the bus we'll continue via a scenic road through the hills, stopping at Dinas Bran where the more energetic will "experience" the struggle and exhilaration of our ancestors as we replicate their breath-taking climb on foot to the 400ft climb to the summit of Dinas Bran (Crow Castle) where the castle remain date back to the occupation of the princes of Powys Fadog in the mid 13th century.

Dinas Bran is a rectangular castle with the longer sides running east-west. Beyond the northern wall the steep natural slope falls sharply several hundred feet whilst the southern and eastern walls are defended by a 20 feet deep ditch.
The most reliable sources state that Gruffydd Maelor II, son of Madog ap Gruffy (founder of Valle Crucis Abbey, where both men are buried) began the castle in the late 1260's.

We'll arrive in Llangollen with plenty of time for refreshments before taking a seat on the Llangollen Steam train; A step back in time, travelling like the Victorians used to travel, gazing out the windows to see the Dee Valley roll by.

The bus will be waiting for you at Cerrog station to take you back to Llangollen via the Horseshoe pass. No visit to Wales would be complete without sampling the outstanding mystical countryside and it doesn't come any more exciting than the A542 Horseshoe Pass, climbing and winding to 1,369ft (417mts). At the top of this dramatic pass is time for a break at the Ponderosa Cafe.

The road dates from 1811 when a turnpike was constructed across the area and is frequently closed in winter due to snowfall or landslides. The remains of slate quarries, closed during the 20th century, can be witnessed here

You'll have the chance to visit Valle Crucis (Valley of the Cross) Abbey which stood for four centuries when the abbey was established in 1201 with its layout in the standard Cistercian plan.

The abbey church accommodated both the choir monks and the lay brethren who would have been accommodated in the range to the west of the cloister. Valle Crucis was dissolved in 1537 at the Dissolution with the buildings rapidly falling into disrepair with excavations and clearance of the ruins carried out in the mid 19th century.

After this it's time to sit back and think about all your wonderful new experiences ot the day whilst we drive you back to your starting point in Chester.
